DESCRIPTION
At the end of its 1700 mile long journey across Europe, the Danube creates the second largest delta in the continent. Vast expanses of swamp and forest, as well as a scattering of pretty lakes surrounded by thick reed beds, provide the perfect sanctuary for over 300 species of birds. Many are year-round residents, plus summer breeders and spring and autumn migrants, like the Great Black-headed Gull, Red-footed Falcon, and Paddyfield Warbler, as well as huge numbers of herons, pelicans and terns.
